When parents are searching for a summer camp, they see a lot of a lot of logos, and a lot of promises. But what matters most is the real-world experience.
We sat down with the Dubois family, whose children, 9-year-old Thomas and 12-year-old Chloé, have been Laurus campers
for the past five summers. We wanted to know: what makes them come back, year after year?
(This is a representative story based on the feedback we receive from our amazing camp families!)

"I still remember dropping Thomas off for his first day of Junior Camp," laughs his mom, Geneviève. "He was 4 years old and clinging to my leg. I was so nervous for him, but when I picked him up, he was covered in paint, holding a craft he was so proud of, and wouldn't stop talking about his counsellor."
For the Dubois family, that first-year experience was all about the staff. "The counsellors in the Junior Program (Ages 3-4) were just incredible. They had so much patience and energy. We felt he was not just safe, but genuinely cared for. That built a level of trust that stuck with us."
As Thomas and Chloé grew, their Laurus experience grew with them. For them, the game-changer was our Specific Training Activities (STAs).
"Chloé has always been dramatic and creative," says her dad, Mathieu. "When she saw she could choose the Dance STA, she was ecstatic. For 75 minutes every day, she got to work with a real dance specialist. She wasn't just 'playing'; she was learning choreography, teamwork, and building so much confidence."
Thomas, meanwhile, discovered a new passion. "We signed him up for the Robotics STA on a whim," Mathieu explains. "And he loved it. He came home talking about circuits and sensors—things we never knew he was interested in! It sparked a new interest in science and technology that he’s now bringing into his school projects."
This summer, Chloé will be entering the Leadership Program (Ages 12-14), and she's "counting down the days."
"It's amazing to watch your kids grow up within a community," says Geneviève. "Laurus has been this incredible constant in their lives. They've built real friendships. They've been mentored by counsellors they look up to. And now, Chloé gets to become one of those role models herself."
When we asked the Dubois family why they recommend Laurus, Geneviève summed it up:
"It's simple. At Laurus, our kids are happy, they're safe, and they come home smarter. It’s the one place that balances education and fun perfectly. It's not just a camp; it's part of our family's summer."
