As Canadians, we expect a snow day here and there, but somehow, when it hits in full flurries and the snow has us locked in, we have a hard time finding things to do. Other than the usual plan, which involves endless hours of Netflix, we thought we would suggest a few other original activities to do with the kids on your next snow day!
Find all the blankets and pillows in the house and build the best pillow fort that you possibly can in the living room. Grab a book, get a colouring book, take a nap, the options are endless! Since it’s so cold outside, building a big cozy pillow fort is a great way to spend quality time with your kid. For extra coziness, throw in some hot chocolate!
Nothing says comfort on a snow day quite like a warm treat to enjoy. Kids love to help their parents in the kitchen, and the messier it gets, the more fun it is! If you’re looking for some inspiration or ideas on what a good recipe would be to make with kids around, click here.
Similar to cooking, kids love a fun mess to make, so why not make it educational? During a snow day, the cold weather and excess amounts of snow are a fun addition to all experiments! Here are some fun winter themed science experiments to try with your children!
What better way to make sure the whole family is engaged and socializing than to lock the phones and iPads away? Next snow day, break out the board games! Get competitive, and create fun memories. Nothing says family time quite like gathering around a table and having a blast!
OK, we know that we said that Netflix is too cliché, but we are very aware that sometimes, all you want to do is curl up with some blankets and throw on your favourite movie! And to that we say; enjoy your snow day! Snow days are to break the usual routine, and do something out of the ordinary. If binge watching movies all day is something you rarely do, then by all means, show yourself some love!
