Laurus Parents, #LaurusFamily, your kids were so amazing this past summer! They are all wonderfully kind, loving and adventurous. However, they were all probably best at following Laurus Summer Camp's # 1 Rule of Camp: HAVE FUN! Regardless of whether or not they are with us, we still expect them to follow the #1 Rule! So, here are a few ideas to get you started in September:
For a family weekend outing, we recommend the Fall Festival at Quinn Farms The festivities include pony rides, live music, and guided barnyard tours.
The Gardens of Light is another great outdoor activity. The illuminated Botanical Garden offers three cultured gardens to explore: Chinese, Japanese, and First Nations.
For younger campers that signed up for our English STA, we recommend Story Time & Craft in English at the Robert-Bourassa Library. Intended for Francophone children with English as a second language, this bilingual fairy tale hour is a fun way to encourage early interest in literacy.
A trip to Drawn & Quarterly Bookstore is another great way to encourage literary interest outside the classroom. Both an independent bookstore and publisher, Drawn & Quarterly has a vast selection of local comics, graphic novels and fiction for all ages. The bookstore serves as a great introduction to Montreal’s literary community.
For our Leadership campers and anyone who signed up for Music STA, we recommend checking out live music and poetry at Le Cagibi. The vegetarian café offers a family-friendly space to experience Montreal’s vibrant music scene. A short walk from Le Cagibi, Resonance Café hosts live Jazz sets every night starting at 6pm. These performances are sure to inspire kids to pick up an instrument! And while we’re talking music, be sure to check out our fall playlist coming out soon!
Finally, for the rainy days ahead we recommend taking a break from screen time to listen to NPR’s Wow in the World—a podcast for scientifically curious kids and their grownups. Check out their back-to-school episode on how recess actually makes us smarter!
So, to all our Laurus campers: get out there and have some fun! We will be hard at work planning new STA’s, games and overall shenanigans for March Break Camp. We can’t wait to see you there.
Have an Outstanding September!Your Laurus Team
