Laurus Summer Camp offers a number of exceptional opportunities for children, but none more unique and memorable than the KIDS CAN program. Through our #KIDSCAN program, campers, led by our leadership STA group, work together to raise money and awareness for local organizations!
In 2013, campers chose to support the SPCA of Montreal with their efforts. Through a variety of different initiatives, campers will help promote awareness of the SPCA and animal rights as well as raise money to help the SPCA provide the best services to the animals involved with the SPCA. They were able to raise $500 dollars!
In 2014 our camper chose to give to the Alzheimer’s Society of Montreal. This amazing organization works to help those suffering from Alzheimer’s, but also their families, and assisting in scientific research. Our leadership crew was honoured to be able to give back to this amazing organization through our first annual Bake Sale! They were able to raise $1000 dollars!
In 2015 our campers chose to give to the VIVO Fund, which helps premature babies born in the NICU at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital. Many of our campers realized that they were one reliant on the machines and expertise of the doctors who cared for them during their premature days, weeks, or months, and felt an immediate need to give back! They were able to raise $2000 dollars!
In 2016 and 2017 our campers chose to give to The Bell Fund. This organization founded by Judy Martin, a cancer survivor who was inspired to start this organization after her cancer surviving experience. The Bell Fund, in partnership with the Cedars Cancer Foundation, provides comfort kits for cancer patients in the MUHC. These comfort kits provide the necessities someone may need while going through treatment, but most of all, it represents community support and community involvement in not only finding a cure, but supporting one another, being there for each other. The Laurus team has felt incredibly honoured to be working with The Bell Fund and the Cedars Cancer Foundation, and will be working with them for hopefully years to come! Over the last two summer’s our #KIDSCAN crew was able to raise $6000 dollars for The Bell Fund, providing 200 comfort kits for the 4500+ cancer patients who walk through the MUHC doors each year.
